Among other authors, the Dallas-Fort Worth area is the home of Mary Brooke Casad.
Mary Brooke Casad was first introduced to armadillos as a child during summer camp in the Texas hill country. She sat back and laughed as the sightings drove other scared campers scurrying away in fear. Years later, Mrs. Casad was inspired to create a character that could teach the children of Texas about their rich local history. "Bluebonnet, the most traveled armadillo in Texas," continues to roam the Lone Star State. Books in the series include entitled Bluebonnet of the Hill Country, Bluebonnet at the Alamo, Bluebonnet at the State Fair of Texas (Eakin Press, Austin); Bluebonnet at Dinosaur Valley State Park, Bluebonnet at the Johnson Space Center, Bluebonnet at the Texas State Capitol, Bluebonnet at East Texas Oil Museum, and most recently, Bluebonnet at the Marshall Train Depot.
